I'm Katie, the creator behind Something Borrowed Ceremonies. I'm an Oregon-based writer and officiant on a mission to ensure that great storytelling is at the heart of every wedding ceremony.
When I'm not officiating, I'm creating resources for first-time, friend-and-family officiants so they can write and deliver an amazing wedding ceremony with grace and ease.

The Method
I believe that great writing happens off the page: when you're sitting with a feeling, reflecting on a moment, or asking yourself what's important. As an officiant and a educator of first-time officiants, my method focuses on identifying themes within a couple's life and evoking them throughout the script. Only by focusing on excellent storytelling and expert writing can officiants and writers of any stripes create something truly one-of-a-kind.
The Story
I started Something Borrowed Ceremonies after I was asked to officiate several of my best friends weddings in 2021. Through officiating my friends' weddings, I learned that I love writing about love and capturing the ineffable elements of someone's relationship via the written word, so I decided to start officiating professionally in and around Oregon.
I believe that everyone should be able to have the wedding ceremony of their dreams–something that feels authentic, heartfelt, and captures the couple’s spirit.
I also believe in the power of love. Married or not, I can’t imagine a more challenging and worthwhile endeavor than the decision to love someone throughout the many phases of life.
My Style
I balance reverence and levity. I love achieving the perfect combination of playfulness and thoughtfulness, tension and release.
I sweat the details. I'm deeply inspired by excellent hospitality and people who go out of their way to make something exceptional for others. I love the finer things and want to treat you to only the best.
I'm academic, and do my research. Whether I'm your officiant or you're an officiant looking for resources, I do all that I can to ensure I'm bringing you the latest and greatest.

My mission is to ensure that the words shared in ceremony are as memorable as the details and artistry that go into the rest of the wedding. Whether you're eloping or getting married in front of 300 people, the words shared on your wedding day should serve as an anchor throughout marriage. I'm here to help make that happen.
